Duxford is an airfield near Cambridge. It was one of the most important fighter bases during the second world war. Then, it was home to the `big wing' of defence squadrons commanded by Douglas Bader, who became a fighter ace despite having two artificial legs. Now, it is home to the Imperial War Museum's collection of aircraft and fighting vehicles, as well as several privately owned historic aircraft. The collection specialises in machines from the Second World War and the early post-war period. Flying displays are held several times every year, at which many of these aircraft are displayed.
