FLYING LEGENDS 2006

British participants in the flying display .....

It was marvellous to see three Bristol fighters, dating from the first world war, flying together. Two of them are shown here.

The De Havilland DH83 Fox Moth was a 1930s design with an enclosed four seat cabin and the pilot in the open air on top. It looks most odd today but was actually not an uncommon configuration in those days.

There were three Hawker Hurricanes flying, including this one. The Hurricane claimed more `kills' than any other aircraft in the Battle of Britain, and was an excellent aircraft, though subsequently eclipsed by the more versatile Spitfire.

The Hawker Sea Fury was one of the last, and one of the best, piston-engined fighters. This smooth and potent machine defeated several MiG15 jets in the Korean war.
