Monday,
16th August 2005.
It was a more relaxing day. We got up in a reasonable time. after breakfast we
went to Ivy's uncle's (father's brother's) house to see more of the relatives for some
photographs and a chat. Then we visited the cemetery where most of Ivy's
relatives were buried.

Charles meeting his cousins
for the first time |
Despite the sad death of
their father at the early age of 36, the family enjoys a simple and
healthy life by the coast. |
|
Charles had a lovely time with his cousins and
meeting a new friend.
Let's eat and drink! Ivy's arrival was celebrated
by her relatives in grand style. The food amounted to a full-blown
feast! David particularly liked the fish, the soups and the fruit. Ivy
ate everything with great relish! The children all loved trying all the
delicacies before charging back to the beach for more play!
The cemetery
The place where Ivy's parents' house used
to stand is half way up the hillside, near the cemetery, with
stunning views over the strait towards Negros. Although the
house itself was demolished by a storm a few years ago, many of
the fruit trees remain. It was an emotional homecoming for Ivy!
We were lucky enough to see a
Philippine monkey climbing a coconut tree! The coconuts,
fresh from the tree, were delicious; Charles enjoyed his
first taste of fresh Buko juice.

Back at Ivy's uncle's house, Ivy's
father found some marvellous conch shells just off the
shore. David went swimming (thank goodness, no pictures)
and enjoyed seeing the fish and corals very close by.
In the evening we were invited to
three dinner parties. Philippa went to the first two but
escaped afterwards! David and Charles retired exhausted
after dinner, while Ivy carried on with the party until
the small hours.
