Tuesday, 17th August 2005. We got up early and went on a Dolphin watching boat trip across the strait to Negros, an island opposite Malabuyoc. It's an hour boat ride plus swimming time......

KAWAYAN MARINE

We stayed at Kawayan Marine while we were in Malabuyoc. The rooms are built of bamboo and thatched, very comfortable and clean, as are the showers. After we returned from the dolphin watching, we were provided with a huge lunch, good for everyone who had been on the boat trip plus quite a few other arrivals besides! Ivy's cousin provided Tuba, the local coconut wine, which Philippa enjoyed trying in true Philippine style! And afterwards, inevitably, slumber ....

Dolphin Watching

We saw three dolphins, but unfortunately David had the camera at this point so all we photographed was a bit of sea where a dolphin had been until half a second previously! Still, it was a lovely experience and well worthwhile, The boat can take up to 20 people, so quite a few of Ivy's relatives were able to come along. To get onto the boat entailed being ferried in a much smaller boat for 50 yards or so, since the larger boat couldn't reach the shore; a new landing stage is under construction which will make this easier in future. Once we reached the coast of Negros we stopped for a swim; and, on the return trip, one or two of us were a bit tired and needed a little rest.

Of course, with less coral, there are fewer fish, though still quite a few; but they probably fled in terror at the sight of the great white sea-monster when David entered the water ...
