DAY 3

DAY1 DAY 2 DAY3

On our final day in Rome, we focussed on the ancient Roman capitol. It was a lovely morning and a very wet afternoon!

We started at the Coliseum ....

View of the elliptical arena, with the store rooms visible beneath what was once the floor.

The ergonomics are excellent, with wide and frequent staircases for easy, fast entry and exit.

The building is still under restoration, with the more dangerous parts closed off, except for wild animals.

Opposite the Coliseum is the entrance to the Archaeological Area, where we first climbed the hill to the ruined Imperial Palace:

From the Palace, we went back down to the old Roman Forum. Here there are the ruins of many of the central sights of Imperial Rome.

After lunch, we started to visit some of the other main sights of Rome, until the rain drive us into the shops (we felt the art galleries would have been a bit overwhelming for Charles, who was showing signs of surfeit).
